I am now half way past my annual 2007 recap/review list and putting it all down on paper (screen?) for people of the world to see and read makes its even more …‘privy’. Being today is the 31^st of December; I think it is also appropriate to have a very special entry.

2008 AD. The Year that much of us, which I believe (according to my observational survey); will be THE BEST YEAR EVER. The culmination is far from over because to be there in that finale for each and every year can be so demanding. Pressure creeps in. Tension mounts. And so is everything else which is so and so unruly. It is up for us for the next 12 months to make sure that the milestone that we are going to set up will be the one that generates and pro-creates the ambition and dream we’ve been longing for.

For some of us, its called RESOLUTION. A decree and declaration within and without.

Lets do it. Now.

Tidak dilupakan juga beberapa siri televisyen yang dirasakan layak mendapat perhatian saya sepanjang 2007 ini: HEROES 2, SMALLVILLE 7 (*Nota: SMALLVILLE EPISOD 5 mungkin episod TERBAIK pernah ditonton!), LOST 3, KISAH KAISARA, KELAB DISNEY MALAYSIA RAYA SPECIAL, REMAJA dan lain-lain yang berkemungkinan sengaja tidak disenarai disini. Sekiranya diamati pada susur-galur perjalanan serta rentak perjalanan Hollywood kebelakangan ini, ianya masih lagi berputar sekitar cereka-cereka adaptasi komik ke filem. Selera yang nampaknya masih dan tetap mendapat sambutan 5 tahun sebelum ini dan rasa-rasanya tidak keterlaluan untuk tempoh 5 atau 10 tahun yang mendatang. Tidak sia-sia dan diperlekeh langsung terlibat dalam profesion ini.

Terlanjur bercakap perihal komik, banyak juga komik-komik menarik yang zahir ada sepanjang 12 bulan yang berlalu dalam 2007. Mari kita semak apa peristiwa serta cerita menarik dalam pengamatan dan bahan bacaan komik saya. Ini senaraian puncak sepuluh (TOP 10) :

1. X-Men dan konco-konco serta anak beranak yang ada kaitan dan pertalian darah dengan generik atau genus mutant sudah hampir kepupusan gara-gara tragedi House of M. Ceritanya tersurat dalam Endangered Species dan yang mutakhir; Messiah Complex
2. Alex Ross kembali kepangkuan Marvel selepas 13 tahun berkhidmat untuk DC Comics secara eksklusif.
3. Siri Ultimates(1 dan 2) hasil gabungan karyawan komik Mark Millar dan Brian Hitch(barangkali komik paling bagus pernah dihasilkan Marvel lewat-lewat ini) selesai dan tamat. Sangat di-syorkan kepada mana-mana pembaca komik baru dan lama, rookie atau veteran.
4. Joe Madureira(orang yang bertanggungjawab menaikkan semula semangat saya membaca komik semasa zaman gawat komik akhir 90an) kembali dengan kelibat karya Ultimates 3.
5. Perang saudara CIVIL WAR Marvel tamat(?). Penyokong dasar Iron Man menang. Pasukan pemberontak Captain America kalah.
6. Captain America mati ditembak oleh kekasih sendiri. Cinta itu kadang-kadang memang buta dan membutakan. Maka celik dan segar-sedarlah dalam bercinta.
7. Hulk mengamuk teruk selepas dibuang daerah oleh sahabat-sahabat sendiri kerana dia gagak dibending dan bakal menjadi onar semasa perang saudara Marvel. Rujuk Planet Hulk dan World War Hulk.
8. Lepas perang saudara, tahun depan perang alien pulak buat Marvel(Secret Invasion).
9. Sinestro Corps War mungkin saya abadikan sebagai crossover komik terbaik 2007 yang saya belum baca.
10. Akhirnya, dapat jua saya merasakan nafas nikmat keberadaan di dalam PREVIEWS - perantaian edaran komik antarabangsa tersohor di dunia. Alhamdulillah.

Keep your eyes peeled and widely open for a Times Square mock billboard using the SUPERMANBATMAN comic logo with a date of '05.15.10'; a poster for a GREEN LANTERN movie (the Alex Ross/Hal Jordan version) outside the video store Robert Neville visits and inside the video store, another poster promises a TEEN TITANS film is coming soon.

For those whose been asking me what happened after Marvel's CIVIL WAR; here's the overview story so far...

• It was a period of Civil War. Though seemingly brought together by fate out of the ashes of the disassembled Avengers team to stop a supervillain breakout at the supermaximum security prison the Raft (ceritanya ada dalam NEW AVENGERS #1), the group of heroes known as the New Avengers - Captain America(Steve Rogers), Iron Man(Tony Stark), Spider-Man(Peter Parker), Wolverine(Logan/James Howlett), Luke Cage, Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), the Sentry(Robert Reynolds) and sometimes Ronin(Maya Lopez, aka Echo); were torn between Iron Man’s drive to register all superhumans and Captain America’s determination to resist.

• When the CIVIL WAR dust settled, Captain America was dead and Iron Man triumphant, installed as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. As a result, two separate teams claim the Avengers mantle - the SECRET AVENGERS and the MIGHTY AVENGERS

• Duly authorized under the Superhuman Registration Act, the Mighty Avengers consist of Iron Man, the Sentry, Ms. Marvel(Carol Danvers), the Wasp(Janet Van Dyne), the Black Widow(Natasha Romanoff), Wonder Man(Simon Reynolds) and God of War; Ares.

• On the run from the government - including the Mighty Avengers; the New Avengers comprise Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Doctor Strange (Stephen Strange Sorcerer Supreme), Iron Fist(Danny Rand) and the new Ronin(Clint Barton formerly known as Hawkeye). They’re supported by Strange’s servant Wong and Cage’s wife Jessica Jones (the one-time hero Jewel and mother of Cage’s child).

• As part of the Initiative event, the Mighty Avengers are embroiled in a tense struggle against a new Ultron, who seized control of Tony Stark’s biomechanically enhanced body, transforming it into a female form not unlike the Wasp’s and deploying near-unstoppable new powers against the team, most recently killing the Sentry’s wife Lindy.

• Meanwhile, the New Avengers’ battle to rescue their teammate Echo from the clutches of the powerful ninja cult called the Hand ended abruptly when Echo stabbed the Hand’s leader Elektra to death: revealing that she’s not Greco-American Elektra Natchios at all, but a SKRULL IMPOSTOR. The fact that a member of this shape-shifting alien race whose long and hostile history with Earth’s heroes was recently illustrated in New Avengers: Illuminati - could assume control of the deadliest group of assassins known to man left the team wondering: Who else might be a Skrull? And WHO CAN YOU TRUST ?

• Not Spider-Woman, apparently: Whether because she’s secretly a Skrull or just thinks taking Skrullektra’s body to Tony Stark for analysis is the right thing to do despite the objections of her teammates, Jessica Drew takes advantage of the crash of the New Avengers’ jet to zap Wolverine and make off with Skrullektra’s corpse.

• Tempers rise and paranoia spreads like a disease, causing the New Avengers to almost disassemble! As the team takes a much-needed break from one another, Wolverine comes face-to-gun-barrel with the criminal underground’s newest head honcho—the Hood!

• New Avengers: Illuminati has been depicting untold tales of a clandestine group of heroes known as the Illuminati: Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Professor X(Charles Xavier), Mister Fantastic Reed Richards), Black Bolt Blackagar Boltagon, King of the Inhumans) and Namor the Sub-Mariner (ruler of Atlantis). Brought together in secret by Stark in the wake of the Kree-Skrull War to quietly protect humanity from major threats, the group played a major behind-the-scenes role in the Marvel Universe before splitting up prior to the Civil War. Among other tasks, they’ve chased off a Skrull fleet, gathered the Infinity Gems, attempted to banish the Beyonder from this universe, convinced Marvel Boy to rethink his life, and exiled the Hulk from the Earth.

• Capitalizing on the disarray facing Marvel’s heroes following the Civil War and the Initiative, the new Kingpin-in-training; THE HOOD, gets organized and rounds up virtually every villain who broke out of the Raft back in New Avengers #1. Promising his newfound their families - if any cape comes near his new operation. To prove his dedication to hiallies more money than they can imagine, the Hood pledges to hit heroes where it hurts particularly s new world order, the Hood physically and psychologically takes out Tigra and sets his sights to earn big while the heroes are occupied with a symbiote infestation.

• While the Mighty Avengers continue their metallic melee with the horde of Iron Man armors unleashed upon them by Ultron, Ares leaves the battle to travel to the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier and reveals his plan to take down Ultron. After a brief meeting of the minds, Ares and Hank agree to implant a virus directly into Ultron’s system. However, to keep the Avengers busy, Ultron hacks into government systems, causing the launch of a nuclear missile off the Florida coast. While the Avengers halt the missile, the Starktech 940 drone secretly launches a shrunken Ares into the mouth of Ultron to implant the virus.

• Disturbed by recent events (and a body bag dropped on his doorstep), Iron Man calls an Illuminati meeting to address the corpse of Skrullektra and threat of a Skrull invasion, which is the result of their past attack. As the group tries to rationalize how to approach this threat, Black Bolt is revealed to be a Skrull spy who immediately attacks the stunned heroes. In the fight agains 'Black Skrolt', the Illuminati seemingly kill him, only to be surprise-attacked by Skrulls mimicking the powers of Thor and Colossus. To end the battle quickly, Iron Man creates a huge explosion that appears to have destroyed the Skrull attackers. Fueled by distrust and betrayal in light of the current situation, the team disbands again, leaving Iron Man to lament the Skrull invasion.

• With the vast majority of New York turned by the symbiote outbreak, both Avengers teams do what they can but ultimately, fall one by one to the venomous goo. Only Iron Man comes through by putting an end to the infestation and, wary of each other, both teams aid in the cleanup. The Mighty Avengers track the symbiote attack back to Dr. Doom and make plans for a trip to Latveria, but not before Wolverine pays Spider-Woman a visit in her shower to question why she had switched sides. Upon leaving, Wolvie joins his rebel teammates as they’ve located the Hood’s hideaway, where a new free-for-all is about to begin …

Today is Wednesday and what a week it was and has been - even though it haven’t ended; yet. It used to be either minorly disorganized or mis-coordinated, but yeah; I am just plain busy nowadays. But I suppose it comes with the territory. And that territory is expanded and prolonged onto a brand new-fangled providence last Friday:

The day was Tuesday and he is enlightening the evening with babbles and gibbers. Poignantly making his dot and spot.

CHAPTER 1

It was him. Working. In the midst of the afternoon. He wears militant colored cap, those of only Che Guevara or maybe Mao Tze Dong would wear. He is alone. Alone but lost in the aftermath of schedule and organized and dated desk job.

He is a comic artist by day and maybe a visionary by night. We will never know for sure.

Only a few stayed back. Those who dared. Friends who believed that staying back is the only solitude and freedom space to be left alone without any disturbances. Without any obstruction. Without any impediment being barged by unwanted intruders of privacy.

“My only refuge”, I quote him.

Today, he draws unlike any other days.

He is depicting illustration of graphical events only people from the outer world understood.

Theres no point now in finishing this --- this, this --- this yarning tale of someone who purchase things from eBays and having-living-being in a band and talk with non-sensical affair.

Nevermind the sunny-drenched or rainy-seared days in November right after noons or late evenings,
Nevermind the RM225 that has gone and given to the man who fixed the car because of the malfunctioning starter oeuvre,
Nevermind the magic show for the orphans which turned around not so good (again, for the second time. The other one was during puasa),
Nevermind the loses to Bajak and Nanzo and Jimi while playing Winning Eleven or FIFA,
Nevermind the overpriced parking ticket which is so uncalled for,
Nevermind the lost and disorganized and scattered comics which I couldn’t say the point of source is,
Nevermind if the boss knew that you’re doing other things besides basic cognizant work like YM, YouTube, trailers, blogs, freelances, etc. ,
Nevermind the fact that I am not keeping pace following serial TV or movies whence where I am nearly out-dated – lepak time,
Nevermind that some of my friends are engaged and getting married sooner or later (congratulations to all of them!),
Nevermind that people doesn’t really believe that Malaysian football will one day strive for the best again despite the loss to Maldives,

Nevermind if the mamak food near the mosque on Fridays are no longer up to standards,

Nevermind that I am really pushing my 2007 resolutions to the excessive and extreme limit,

the SPIRIT and the INVINCIBLE.

Seingat aku la kan, aku tak pernah baca satu pun komik THE SPIRIT. Mungkin ada niat dan tergerak nak baca sebab hasil Will Eisner tapi belum kesempatan. Kalau ada tulisan Will Eisner yang aku dah baca mungkin COMICS AND SEQUENTIAL ART yang pada hemah aku bagus sebagai salah satu bahan rujukan untuk pembikin-pembikin dan pencipta-pencipta komik domestik dan internasional.

Walaupun filem THE SPIRIT ni tidak akan keluar panggung wayang dalam masa terdekat ni, akan tetapi kerana Frank Miller mengarah dan visi dia yang terkandung dalam filem SIN CITY dan 300 telah membuktikan kredibilitinya pada adaptasi komik ke filem, maka yakinilah ini menjanjikan sesuatu. Kita tunggu tayangannya nanti awal 2009.

Writer-director Frank Miller described the main character:

“ The character has a terrifying side to him. This is a man who’s died and come back to life. So it twists into fantasy. And of course there are tons of women in it. There have to be — it’s The Spirit. They’re all in love with him, and he’s in love with all of them. You might say he’s a bit of a slut. ”

The film will not be an origin story, but will begin directly with the adventures of THE SPIRIT. The film will be more contemporary than the '40s and '50s era of the strip and will aim for a "timeless feel".

It was used there by the character Mr. Spock (actor Leonard Nimoy, himself Jewish) as the greeting of the Vulcan people. Ada soalan ?

A TRIBUTE TO JACK AND JANICE --- CONGRATULATIONS !

It's amazing and astonishing (yeap, picked up those two fine lines from comic books) of how a man will go thru' that special extend just to win his heart's desire (now, this is one from a book). A friend of mine did just that yesterday by giving her --- #1 issue of Care Bears (which the girl loves so much), a proposal ring (the main thing), a bunch of roses (gotta have the roses,dud!) , Snoopy plush dolls and this ;

* a published proposal in a well known comic magazine where many bare witness to this eventful occassion. Giler la lu!
