... here's the deal on the latest SUPERMAN flick ; eyes wide.

Despite the fact that just over a week ago, Warner Bros. said they were "very much in business" with SUPERMAN director McG ( ...the guy who did charlie's angel), the studio officially confirmed today that the two have of officially parted ways. It had been rumored since June that McG was off the project but WB maintained he was still involved. This same tactic (denydenydeny) was used when Brett Ratner's days were numbered on the project. While it appears to be a number of different issues that led to the decline of McG's tenure on the project, McG himself issued a statement indicating location was the biggest problem. "When I flew to New York to scout, I became enamored with our greatest American city. It was clear to me that this was Metropolis. As a filmmaker, I felt it was inappropriate to try to capture the heart of America on another continent." That other continent he was referring to is Australia, which is where WB is currently setting up shop to shoot the film. Though location might be an official reason why McG and WB "amicably" parted ways, budget and casting are also believed to have played a large part in the rift as well. Michael Bay seemed to have been the leading candidate to replace McG on the project, especially after a cryptic posting on his official site showing the new SUPERMAN logo in the news section. But sources for the director said that while he has spoken with the studio about it, "it is not real likely that things will work out for it" (source: Stay tuned as word of McG's replacement will no doubt come swiftly as the studio tries to keep momentum going on this project towards a late 2004 start date.

McG has been on board to direct the project since last summer, in recent weeks rumors have been circulating that there are problems between the studio and the director over the location of the shoot, according to sources. That has sparked talk that Bay is in line to replace McG. A Warner Bros. spokesperson maintains that the studio is still very much in business with McG and that rumors about Bay's involvement are "absolutely not true";Bay has not been approached about the film. Bay said through a staffer that the site is operated by a fan and that he had no involvement in posting the logo.

well, well --- at least things are moving around for a new man of steel movie here.

p/s : i hope they will hook-up Tom Welling for this.
