IN THE NAME OF EVERYTHING SWEET, FANBOYS... JOE MADUREIRA RETURNS !

No.

We can't wait until Comic Con.

Sorry.

There's not much more to say. We'll let Joe Mad's art speak for itself.

Ultimates Vol. 3 #1

It's been nearly two years since the Ultimates 3 creative team was announced. Since then we've heard very little. We've seen a sketch here and a whisper there, but nothing too concrete about the direction of the story or the art.

Earlier this year, sources managed to get some basic details out of the new series writer Jeph Loeb ( Smallville and Heroes ). We were told we might not see traditional ' Avengers villains ' lining up against our heroes.

Readers were also advised to expect a slightly different creative direction. Loeb stated, " At the end of the day, The Ultimates had lived in a very political arena. That was something that interested former writer, Mark Millar and it's something that he does probably better than anybody. One might say that it's brilliant political satire. That's not a world that I want to try to copy anymore than Joe Madureira wants to imitate former artist; Bryan Hitch. He has to make it his own - we have to make it our own flavor. " The writer also mentioned that his interests for the title happily coincided with where Millar and Hitch left things in Ultimates 2 #13.

So here we are, just one day removed from the start of the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con and four days away from Marvel's Ultimate Universe panel. It has been a very long wait for a solid, definitive glimpse into this universe.

That wait is over.

There's not much more to say.

p/s: And just wait until you see this image's counterpart... Villains, anyone?
